Roses in my window

Are cut flowers a memento mori?

A reminder that all things pass?

A token of the ephemeral in life?

Do we need to remember that nothing will last?

How could we ever forget?

Humans are doomed to know that life is short.
Inevitability is our heritage and our burden.

Beauty flourishes than dies, withering

Dropping like the petals of a rose

Crumbling and turning to dust

Vanished like our ancestors from this earth
To be no more

This is not a gloomy fact-- it just is.
Not a complaint, but a privilege of the living

Yes, we do need to remember. To know that all is finite and one day will end.

This is not a gloomy fact-- it just is.
Not a complaint, but a privilege that comes with the glories of life.
